CP:What Are The Chickens in Your Life?

October 21, 2009 by aronaindoha

I recently heard a great story from a friend. Seems he once had a summer job working on a farm, where some people had the job of moving live chickens from one place to another. They had to collect 4 live chickens, 2 under each arm, and take them from one place to another. My friend said that quite often he’d watch someone who got ahold of 4 chickens, started to move them, and then lost control of one chicken and it got away. In almost every case, they would start chasing after the one they dropped, and in the process they almost always lost control of the other three. They ended up with no chickens at all, starting all over again. I have seen people do something similar during the course of their carer path. They have a job they enjoy, that matches their lifestyle and other values, and overall suits them quite well. Then something changes, and the job now has some parts that are not quite so much fun. In some cases it’s a major change, like re-locating across the country, in other cases it might be relatively minor like now having to write extra reports. Their first reaction is to jump ship, and start looking for a new position By just focusing on that one new bad thing, they can lose sight of how good the fit is overall. In some cases, they go so far as to leave that job for a new one, that may not be as good of a fit overall. After the initial excitement of the new job wears off, they realize some of that is not as much fun as they thought, and they are off on the hunt again. It does not have to be this way. I don’t know anyone who loves every aspect of their job, but most of us realize that it’s the overall fit that is most important. If we are lucky enough to enjoy what we do on a daily basis, and feel proud of our contributions on a regular basis, we can put up with a little unpleasantness every now and then. So the next time there is a sudden change at work, stop and think before you react. Evaluate if this is really a bad thing in the long run, or might it be an opportunity for you to learn a new skill, or grow in another way. If not, then you can make a change. If it is, you may find yourself not only with the four chickens you started with, but with something even better. This article was written by freelance scientific communication consultant Lisa M. What do women really want? (QLL)

October 23, 2007 by aronaindoha

Take some time to read this….good one and very True!!!

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of
a neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was moved
by Arthur’s youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom,
as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have
a year to figure out the answer and, if after a year, he still had no
answer, he would be put to death.

The question was: What do women really want?

He accepted the monarch’s proposition to have an answer by year’s end. He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone. Many people advised him to consult the old witch, for only she would have the answer. But the price would be high as the witch was famous through out the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged. The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk to the witch.

She agreed to answer the question, but he would have to agree to her price first. The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, The most noble of the Knights of the Round Table, and Arthur’s closest friend! He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden, But Lancelot, having learnt of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur’s life and the preservation of the Round Table.

Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered. Arthur’s question thus: “What a woman really wants?”

She said, “Is to be in charge of her own life.”

Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth.

And that Arthur’s life would be spared. And so it was. The neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom. And Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding. The honeymoon hour approached and, Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen lay before him on the bed. The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened.

The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, She would henceforth be her horrible and deformed self only half the time. And the beautiful maiden the other half.

“Which would you prefer? She asked him.

“Beautiful during the day…or at night?”

Lancelot pondered the predicament. During the day he could have a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, But at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch!

Or,

Would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day? But by night a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous, intimate moments with?

(If you are a man reading this…) What would YOUR choice be?

(If you are a woman reading this) What would YOUR MAN’S choice be?
What Lancelot chose, is given below:

Noble Lancelot, knowing the answer the witch gave Arthur to his question, He said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself. Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time. Because, he had respected her enough, to let her be in charge of her own life.

Now… what is the moral to this story?

1) There is a powerful creature (witch) in every woman no matter how beautiful she is!

2) If you don’t let a woman have her own way, things are going to get ugly.

So, always remember: IT’S EITHER “HER WAY” OR IT’S “NO WAY”!!!

The importance of Marriage? (QLL)

October 20, 2007 by aronaindoha

By Gypsy on Wed, 03/10/2007 – 10:33am

Ok, this isn’t a joke or anything, this is me honestly wondering what the point of marriage is. It just doesn’t make sense to me. You stand up, say a couple of words, sign a slip of paper, and suddenly your union is right in the “eyes of God”?? It someone makes children from that union more special? I mean, why would God care?

Even more so, why is getting married considered to be the be all and end all of most peoples lives? Here in Asia the decision to get married reminds me of some peoples decision to choose a university, or buy their first car. It’s like they think “well I’m 23 now, time to tie the knot I guess, Mom, Dad find me a wife/husband.” I just can’t imagine thinking of marrying someone as just something you do, like going grocery shopping.

In the West we put tons of significance onto it, too much. You have to be madly in love, commited forever, soul mates. If you don’t find your soul mate then there is something wrong with you. Instead of deciding, while I’m old enough lets get married to someone for the sake of getting married, it’s a contest. Can you beat out all the other guys/girls to get your “perfect” mate, that person you connect with and have hot passionate sex with. And if you don’t snag this person, well you’re a loser.

Both of these cases make marriage seem like a HUGE waste of time to me. And both cases make marriage, which is supposed to be some big act in the eyes of God, seem shallow and silly. Frankly, in this day and age I think it should be tossed out altogether.

Will Power and Self-Discipline – do you have any?(QLL)

October 19, 2007 by aronaindoha

By jauntie on Mon, 15/10/2007 – 1:46am

How many times have you told yourself:, “I wish I had will power and self discipline”? How many times have you started to do something, only to quit after a short while? We all have had experiences like these.

Sometimes, you wish to go for a walk, knowing how good it is for your health and how wonderful you feel afterwards, yet, you feel too lazy, and prefer to watch TV instead. You might be aware of the fact that you need to change your eating habits or stop smoking, yet, you don’t have the inner power and persistence to change these habits.

Everyone possesses some addictions or habits they wish they could overcome, such as smoking, excessive eating, laziness, procrastination or lack of assertiveness. To overcome these habits or addictions, one needs to have will power and self discipline. They make a great difference in everyone’s life, and bring inner strength, self mastery and decisiveness.

Does this sound familiar?

I have to admit I struggle with this one myself.
Self-discipline doesn’t come easy!

jauntie said would quite like to keep this one ‘on topic’ my friendly Pope

“Sometimes, you wish to go for a walk, knowing how good it is for your health and how wonderful you feel afterwards, yet, you feel too lazy, and prefer to watch TV instead. You might be aware of the fact that you need to change your eating habits or stop smoking, yet, you don’t have the inner power and persistence to change these habits.”

I can’t believe I’m alone in this lack of self-discipline but I get psyched by people who DO have all that will power to run marathons, or swim the English Channel or whatever …

Interested to see who on QL will admit to being one or the other!

RED_POPE said Jauntie

My motivation is my age group. I always put in my mind the marathon man running early on the morning and the sunrise on his back….

I don’t count in motivation from others, mostly I’m a lone, doing and planning stuff… I’m my own motivator. In money games and my most resent work outs.

The Red Pope of Qatar Living

jauntie said me too, pope

I really get a buzz out of doing exercise, whether playing a sport or swimming or just on a treadmill – it’s just actually motivating myself to get up and go and DO it that’s the problem. :(

Even though I know I will feel great afterwards!

It’s a bit like some woman once said about sex: You don’t feel like it, then you do it, and afterwards you’re glad you did :D

But getting back to what I was really talking about … In general, I think I lack the self-discipline and motivation which I so admire in others.

Ram said Jauntie

This is a real good thread .. which i like it but it really hurt .. cuz it’s telling the truth to me .. I lack the self-discipline too ..

A long list of things that i wished to do but i didn’t …
sometimes i start and quit after a while .. i dunno how to gain this will power inside of me .. The most things of my wish list is to quit smoking and be athletic .. but it seems that they will remain in the wish list and they never moves .. and the same thing goes to the rest of the list .. that’s really too bad .. i thought that i’m the only one but thanks God i’m not alone ..

Some of us were not born to be doctors, lawyers and teachers. Some of us are the benefit of others weakness. Is how much you put your heart into something you like, is beneficial for you and you succeed in doing so.

For example: Invested in real state a long time ago, bought and sold, stock’s, put money in high interest CD accounts, bonds and minerals. I successful established an income for me, without working so hard. Of course the people I associated with are in the same mind and state. I help others, donated money and personnel time to others.

I Read a lot on finances, taxes and real state, but for the benefit for my self only goal to be financial independent. I had my up and downs, but eventually, did bounce off the dry docks. I’m solid because, I choose another way of making money. Did neglected a few things.

Is just because maybe you are not happy with yourself, should I said: Satisfied with your goals…

Unfortunately education is not the whole game for me. I got my degree a long time ago, I look at it like toilet paper, never work it….. I don’t care about it. Is just a piece of paper with black letters. The reality is other.

Keep working out, maybe I’ll drop by with my inflatable water ducky wrap around my waist teasing you….

The Red Pope of Qatar Living

jauntie said no, Pope

It’s not that I didn’t achieve my ‘goals’. I never really had any! But I see others who have ‘goals’ and go for them.

What I wonder is why some of us aren’t disciplined enough to go for goals.

What makes one person self-willed enough to HAVE a goal and GO for it? Whilst others just really arent bothered or sufficiently self-motivated to try, even though they may envy the winners in this life who do have that self-discipline.

Hi ram xx

jauntie said Is it a genetic thing?

like with animals … they mate with the strongest in their pack to promote a stronger gene.

Or does the will to succeed come from within …

RED_POPE said Jauntie

Lets not compare apple and lemons. Genetics still at early stages. So is DNA research. They just started to discover and learning to tinkle with it.

Is your mind vs your heart Sra….
I love the movie Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is so close to our own lives.

The Red Pope of Qatar Living

jauntie said the topic, Pope

is more to do how one uses self-discipline to persevere in, say, going to the gym or regulating your eating, and the will power NOT to hit someone when you really want to!!!!

“Everyone possesses some addictions or habits they wish they could overcome, such as smoking, excessive eating, laziness, procrastination or lack of assertiveness”.

Or .. want to hit someone! :D

Mass hangings on corniche?

From today’s on-line Peninsula

Doha • Families avoided the Corniche on the second day of Eid as the Doha’s popular landmark witnessed hundreds of single expatriates, mostly Asians workers hanged there for Eid celebration.

Arona said Yes, I think so

Corniche is a good place for our single expates hanging out. whatsoever, I hanged myself out there. sometimes 1 – 2 hours.
hahaha, somehow, I find hanging out on Corniche is very good.
That is my understanding at beginning of seeing the word HANG.

October 19, 2007 by aronaindoha

why do you think you only see’s asian girls with white guys and never asian guy with white girl? why asian girls go for white guys? and its so rare to see the other way around.is it becuase asian guy are too shy?
or is it about size and height?
or maybe you guys have answer to all my questions…i just wana know myself coz im not an asian girl?

Gypsy said Please specify which Asian

Please specify which Asian group you are talking about, Oriental, Sub-continent or Arab.

I feel your scorn and I accept it-Jon Stewart

Milos said Money

From what I’ve seen it’s usually because of money…

Imz said Who says so?

Its nothin to do with size n looks, it sure does with the money. Also I believe communication problem is there, usually u find the asians with good accent, I’m talkin as in majorities n minority. Also these white chicks are a bit expensive to keep. well but it is common. I had one before, infact i believe they are easier catch… well guys dont get me wrong here, but I’m tellin you this from my experience.

Greeker said ‘Easier catch’, ‘expensive

‘Easier catch’, ‘expensive to keep’, whew!

I wish you could have been more subtle here… Nobody is a ‘good catch’, buddy.

If you find someone who reciprocates your feelings, the question of being expensive doesnt arise. Chances are, one wouldnt let the other bear everything on their own. Isnt that the basic principle of love? Care and share?

Or have i lost it and become too old already?

Not you can find many goods made or from in China.I want to learn English, also Arabic and teach others Chinese. Is anyone like my idea? pls. contact with here:)
and my English teacher  Ola said, …the main languages in the world are below
English
Chinese
Arabic
French
Spanish

Senti:my teacher told me,hindi may be the second language spoken by the people all over the world.lol
Coolquiteman:jauntie i suspect its a typo but nevertheless
‘hindus’refers to people who follow hinduism. it has little or no relation to hindi which is the national language of india.
do it right – the first time!
Novita:I assuming all Indian speaks Hindi and they have their own dialek depending where they come from. Like in China everyone speaks mandarin and have their own dialek like Cantonese or Hokkien.
Jauntie:I actually thought Hindi was only spoken by a Hindu, so thank you for that piece of knowledge and my apologies to your National Language and to any Hindus who I may have offended. And anyone else!!! (one can never overdo it when it comes to apologies)
Cool..:novita actually not. hindi is mainly spoken in north india. to the west its like marathi gujarathi …to the south there are 4 states with their own languages and they are not well versed in hindi(though they might speak ir smatteringly). the northeast is yet another story as is kashmir.
but hindi is the most widely spoken if thats what you sre asking.

jauntie said birthday going fine tks cqm

Our driver is from Kerala and he doesn’t know Hindi either – he speaks Malayalam.
Anyway, I now know it isn’t only spoken by Hindus. Glad we cleared THAT one up!

Jauntie..:Is this just an Eid break you are taking – couple of weeks, a month?I’m panicking now …. how long are you going for!
Cool..:just an eid break …taking the family along to the big apple
back in 2-3 weeks hopefully…..
Jauntie:to catch the first of the Christmas sales, I guess. Gawd help us all lol.Hub brought home a couple of table candles for me today – said the shop ‘Dreams’ is full of Santas – oh he just informed me they have them all year round.
Cool..:nope not a shopping trip(pssssst the wife doesnt know that)
lol…have planned it as pure sightseeing to ny,washin…,boston.
that wouldnt give much time for shopping would it? lol
cqm has impish grin
Jauntie:Sounds good to me – I’ve never been a shopperholic. Well I’m sure you’ll all have a wonderful time. I wish you a safe journey.

Arona said To novita77,

you are right!

you said: “CQM …
I assuming all Indian speaks Hindi and they have their own dialek depending where they come from. Like in China everyone speaks mandarin and have their own dialek like Cantonese or Hokkien. “

usually, north of chinese speak mandarin, people from Guang dong province speak Cantonese ans also there are a lot of Chinese languages in west ,east, middle and …of China. because China is so big. the difference between China & India is affected by English.China is less and India is more. so now Indian enigeers is more easy to find a job in english company than Chinese engineers.Anyway, Chinese religion in folk custom, such as Buddha is imported from Indian. So WEST is advanced, civilized in Chinese opinions so far.
In my opinion, languages are culture in concepetion. so just keep your native one. you can learn more if you want to enjoy a specific culture then u can learn it language. such as I find Arab culture is very interesting, so i love to learn it if i can. English is same. but now we have to use english well as she is the common language worldwide.

A really good Indian boy! …

October 7, 2007 by aronaindoha

This joke gives us a shock between different culture. Indian, esp. like Chinese students are very different with American ones. There is one side of carefulness and effort for Asia children, also there is another side of creativeness and imagination for American.so The world show fantastic because of different. My friends working in UOP(a very big engineering company in oil & gas field)said to me that her company want to have stuff from diferent contries and different cluture. It is harmonious for a good international company. (reference to a joke from QLL below)

        An Indian Kid in USA

It was the first day of school and a new student named
Chandrashekhar Subrahmanyam entered the fourth grade.

The teacher said, “Let’s begin by reviewing some American History.
Who said “Give me Liberty, or give me Death”?

She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Chandrashekhar,
who had his hand up: “Patrick Henry, 1775″ he said.

“Very good!”
Who said “Government of the People, by the People,
for the People, shall not perish from the Earth?”
Again, no response except from Chandrashekhar.
“Abraham Lincoln, 1863″ said Chandrashekhar.

The teacher snapped at the class, “Class, you should be ashamed.
Chandrashekhar, who is new to our country,
knows more about its history than you do.”

She heard a loud whisper: “F**k the Indians,”
“Who said that?” she demanded.
Chandrashekhar put his hand up. “General Custer, 1862.”

At that point, a student in the back said, “I’m gonna puke.”
The teacher glares around and asks “All right! Now, who said that?”
Again, Chandrashekhar says,
“George Bush to the Japanese Prime Minister, 1991.”

Now furious, another student yells, “Oh yeah? S*ck this!”
Chandrashekhar jumps out of his chair waving his hand
and shouts to the teacher, “Bill Clinton, to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!”

Now with almost a mob hysteria
someone said “You little sh*t.
If you say anything else, I’ll kill you.”
Chandrashekhar frantically yells at the top of his voice,
“Gary Condit to Chandra Levy, 2001.”

The teacher fainted.
And as the class gathered around the teacher on the floor,
someone said, “Oh sh*t, we’re f**ked!”
And Chandrashekhar said quietly, “George Bush, Iraq, 2005.”

This meeting style is a European way, i think. I saw the lady hugged and kissed on face with each men present when she would leave. It is really different to a Chines meeting. So I only shook hands with them. Actually, I felt a little affected! Anyway. I like to learn their custom.
